Josiah made it from 12:30 until about 3:30 yesterday afternoon off the vent. We were obviously hoping he would make it off the vent for good, so it was kind of disappointing to us to see him back on it. He just seemed to be working really hard and didn't have enough energy to keep it up for very long. So the plan is now to keep feeding him and let him "grow" for another week then try again.
Also, the lines that they put in him during surgery (RA lines) have gotten old. These are the lines that they put meds through and draw blood from in order to get labs done. They're not really meant to be in for more than a couple of weeks. Today is 3 weeks since his surgery when they were put in. So they need to take them out, but have to replace them with some other kind of line. The docs are discussing what to do, but will probably put a PICC line in. This is a long term IV that has to be put in in the cath lab. They may do this later this afternoon, probably more likely tomorrow. The good news is that the RA lines are one of the main reasons they don't let you hold your baby. So that means we would be one step closer and maybe give me some room to beg!
